Donating to bstreetsmart
The bstreetsmart road safety program was the first of its kind in Australia. It is comprehensive in its format and content and unique as a community education and injury prevention initiative. bstreetsmart was developed and run by a Trauma Centre as opposed to a Government Agency or Private Organisation. It was initially run as a pilot program at Westmead Hospital with a total of 400 high school students in the local area. Following its enormous success and overwhelming response and demand from the community, it was finally launched as a State Wide Forum and run at the Qudos Bank Arena, on the site of our Olympic Park. It is now in its twentieth year.
This project has immense potential to prevent injury, loss of life and save money not only for the health dollar but also for the family and community as trauma affects more than the patient.
The core cost for running the three day forum is currently substantially funded by the NSW Government. Obviously, as part of a public health service, funding is sometimes scarce and the Trauma Service could benefit with the help of corporate and public donations as we continue to grow the event. All gifts/donations, no matter how small, are important in sustaining the vision of bstreetsmart into research, education and injury prevention.
